DESIGNED BY YOU, MADE BY MIIK
OUR DESIGN CONTEST VOTING IS OFFICIALLY OPEN!
We received over 130 design submissions for our contest, and we are so excited that you now have the opportunity to vote on our team’s top 10 picks! CLICK HERE to take a look and vote for your favourite designs.
There were truly so many incredible designs and we wish we could make all of them. Our community always has the most incredible design ideas and recommendations, so our goal with this contest was to really pull you all in the driver’s seat and see what you would come up with if you could design ANYTHING. We also wanted to include YOU in our decision making process, and pull back the curtain on the behind the scenes looks like from selecting colours, to designing the styles, to making our buttery soft custom milled fabric and production in our local Canadian factories. We hope that as things start to open up again, we will be able to show you more and more of our behind the scenes into our production, too!
SO WHAT'S COMING UP NEXT WITH THE DESIGN CONTEST?
1. We are going to describe in detail the top 10 designs below, and you will be able to decide which is your favourite and VOTE for it. To skip the details below and get straight to voting, CLICK HERE.
2. Voting is open until next Monday, September 6th. We will gather all the votes, and then will announce the winner later next week! (Before September 9th)
3. Later in September or October, the winner will have a call with our founder, owner and designer Donna to make additional decisions about their design. This includes deciding what colours and patterns the piece will come in, how heavy the fabric will be, and discussing any tweaks that need to be made to the design before heading into production. Since all our clothes is made in Canada in small batches, it means we have a lot of control over the finished product and all the details. So our winner will get to participate in all those decisions!
4. After all that is done, we will finally move into production and the winner will decide what they’ll be naming their style! Our winner will get a $200 Gift Card from Miik and will also get their winning style for themself and a friend!
OUR TOP 10 DESIGNS
Now let’s move into talking about our TOP 10 designs from the contest thatour team has selected! These are put in no particular order and each design has the potential to be our WINNER!
A. The Breton: “Breton! For years the Breton has remained a classic for a reason. With a Miik twist on fabric you can reinvent it with a classic boat neck that is definitely worthy of revival. I believe the next summer/spring collective should be inspired by nautical/charting our course to new adventures and embracing timeless classics. The Breton and a boat neck is chicness overload - n’est ce pas? With the Miik quality construction and airy fabric and expertly tailored and shaped with a vented hem for a feminine look.”
B. The halter-top jumpsuit: “Even though I’m on the larger side and hate my arm flab, I love a halter neckline. I thought a halter neck “poop suit” jumpsuit/romper would look amazing, and be something a little dressier. It would look nice in a solid colour or even play with a plain top and striped or floral bottoms (I put a picture of a black and white jumpsuit for the idea).” + “A new summer dressy romper. Pockets, & the fabulous Miik buttery soft fabric. They are pull in style.” Note, 2 people submitted almost this exact design. Both of them will win if this design is chosen!
C. The mock neck top: “Down with decolletage and naked neck, at least for today. Embrace the mighty mock neck! Level up your tank routine with the elegance and versatility of a reversible mock neck tank. Think: Sleeveless shirt version of the Natalia mock neck aline dress, with a more relaxed neck. Between the Lea and Shandra in torso fit - fitted through shoulder and bust, less fitted in abdomen (no flare in midsection). No collar seam at neck. Same cut front to back opens the possibility of being reversed with different patterns/colours on either side. Shandra length allows for tuck, or leave out.”
D. The ruffle sleeve tee: “Ruffle sleeve tee (inspired by Isabella Ruffle dress). Scoop neck, ruffle sleeves, slightly fitted at the bust to flatter but then a-line style to the hem to give room for movement and comfort. Hem hits at high hip - not too long for petite torso’s but still appropriate for medium-longer torso’s. Straight hemline, perfect to tuck in fully, French tuck or leave untucked.”
E. The Bohemian dress: “Bohemian dress in light bamboo fabric with a smocked waist and loose flowy arms coming to just above elbow. Relaxed a-line flowy skirt. Would look great in solids and a fun bohemian print. ”
F. The midi length dress: “Crossover V neckline in front and back of bodice sleeveless flattering waistband that falls underneath your bust line midi length skirt falls to your mid calf add pockets!”
G. The high-waisted trousers: “Based on the YSL Le Smoking, pull-on trousers.” This design is a high-waisted trouser made with a lightweight fabric for all season wear.
H. The pleated top: “Flattering sleeveless top with pleating detail…to be worn on its own or under blazers…simple, classic, comfortable, versatile, every-woman”
I. The V-neck tunic with slits: “This is similar to the Amber tunic but I would change it to a v-neck and 30" in length. Version 2 would have no slit on the side and add large patch pockets on the front. This would be a great basic layering piece and look great with crop jackets and cardigans.”
J. The Tulip dress: “This sleeveless dress is fitted at the bust, but relaxed through the tummy and hips. It has a tulip-like layer of ruching from the right shoulder, angling down to the left hem. It’s casual enough to work as a sun dress, but with the right jewellery or accessories, it can be dressed up for work or evening. Length is just above the knee. Submitted by Claire Garcia, age 11, aspiring fashion designer.”
